Executive Director/Founder - Cary Bernstein
Cary Bernstein founded Spay Neuter Charlotte out of a profound personal concern about how our community treats homeless dogs and cats. There were too many healthy, homeless animals dying in the region because of pet overpopulation and a lack of resources to address this issue. Knowing that one of the resources that was most needed was affordable and accessible spay neuter led her to open Spay Neuter Charlotte, a 501c(3) non-profit affiliated with the Humane Alliance one of the preeminent spay neuter programs in the country.
Since opening in 2011 Spay Neuter Charlotte has fixed 46,000 dogs and cats and provided basic medical care to 13,000 patients. Cary is extremely proud of what the Spay Neuter Charlotte has accomplished and the impact it is making in the never-ending quest to fix as many dogs and cats as possible. She is equally proud to work every day with a team of extraordinary people who are deeply committed to the pet owners who entrust Spay Neuter Charlotte with caring for their beloved family members who happen to be dogs and cats. The Spay Neuter Charlotte team is committed, enthusiastic, patient, loving and devoted to our cause, every day and for every patient.
Cary is married to Alan, mom to boxer mix Hazel, pit bull mix Tillie, and three rescue cats named Leo, Delilah and Mel and two two-legged children, Eli and Zoe.
